Public Visitation Rules

Please read all of the rules completely prior to moving forward – Not knowing the rules will not be accepted as an excuse for not following them Disobeying any rule may result in you being banned from visiting detainees or criminal charges being pursued when applicable.


  • Only immediate family members on the detainee’s “Approved Visitors List” may visit with a detainee. These people may include:
    • Grandparents
    • Parents (Mother and Father)
    • Siblings (Brothers and Sisters)
    • Children
    • Grandchildren
    • A Significant Other (a person of the detainees choosing)
  • Detainees may receive one visit per week.
  • You are permitted to visit only one detainee per day.
  • All visits must be scheduled 24 hours prior to the appointment or up to 96 hours (4 days) in advance.
  • Detainees must be in custody 72 hours prior to their first visit
  • All visitors should arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time in order to check in
    • Visitors who arrive after the scheduled start time will not be allowed to visit.
    • All visitors must possess a valid government issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license or State ID card.
    • All children (under 18 years of age) must be accompanied by an adult and must possess a copy of the child’s birth certificate.
    • Visitors may also be asked to provide proof of relationship to the detainee. This can be done with a birth certificate, marriage license, adoption papers, or other legal documents.
  • All visits are subject to monitoring and recording
  • All persons and property on the Sheriff’s Office grounds are subject to search.
  • Lobby rules must be followed at all times.
  • No cameras, cell phones, MP3 players or any other electronic devices are allowed. If it is discovered that you have taken any photographs in the facility the camera or photographic device may be confiscated.
  • Appropriate dress is required at all times.
    • Skin tight / Form fitting clothes are not allowed.
    • Any clothing or other items displaying gang-related symbols, themes or colors are prohibited.
    • Any clothing containing vulgar or objectionable language or images are prohibited.
    • All visitors must wear undergarments at all times.
    • No hats are allowed in the facility.
    • No see through clothing allowed.
  • Standing, kneeling, lying or climbing on the countertops, benches, chairs or stools is not allowed.
  • Any item issued to you remains the property of the Kane County Sheriff’s Office. You are responsible for any loss of or damaged of these items and may be assessed a fee for such actions.
  • The Sheriff’s Office is not responsible for any property secured in lockers or left unattended at the facility.
  • The visitation schedule may be cancelled or altered on county appointed holidays or for safety / security reasons.
  • Staff can deny, change, or cancel a visit at any time at their discretion.
  • After your visit has ended please return to the front lobby immediately.
